Gatherings for Good in Your Neighborhood

July 22: Morning Meetup For Q+ & Ally Professionals, Hosted by Oregon Pride in Business (ORPIB)

Start your day in community! This gathering brings together LGBTQIA2S+ and ally business owners, nonprofit leaders, individual professionals, and anyone building their work in less traditional ways. Whether you run a company, freelance, or are just exploring what’s next, you’re welcome here. Connect with peers, share what your organization or project is up to, spark ideas for collaboration, or simply enjoy a late morning coffee or tea in a welcoming space.

This event occurs every fourth Wednesday at Social Good Place (SE Portland), and every second Wednesday at the Q Center (N Portland). RSVP is not required, but is appreciated in helping us plan.

July 28: Stand on Business Partner Happy Hour, hosted by Q Center and Oregon Pride in Business

Happy Hour from 5-7pm on Tuesday, July 28 for Q+ and Ally business owners, leaders, and nonprofit professionals. Free. RSVP kindly requested.

July 22: Sashiko-Style Visible Mending for Beginners

Host: Izador (Izzy) Goldbear | mrgoldbear.com |@mr_goldbear

Join Izzy for a 90-minute exploration of sashiko—the Japanese art of functional decorative stitching. Bring a piece of fabric you’d like to mend or embellish—whether it’s a garment needing a patch, a textile ready for transformation, or simply something you’d like to practice on. No experience necessary. Izzy will walk you through basic stitching techniques, making this accessible whether you’re picking up a needle for the first time or looking to deepen your practice.

July 30: Life Recording — Live! with Leif Olsen

Every month, Life Recording — Live! chooses four people, one at a time, to sit down with interviewer Leif Olsen to tell a piece of their story — live, in front of the room. No script, no rehearsal, just real conversation that can be as magical as it is mundane.

That’s the night: four live interviews, and a room full of people listening closely to each other.

After the event, Leif turns each recorded conversation into a short original piece set to music — a keepsake for the storyteller and for everyone who was there to hear it.

You don’t need a big story or a polished one, just a willingness to talk, or to listen closely to someone who is. Come be part of the everyday magic of honest human connection.

August 3-5: Needle Felting Characters From Your Drawings (for kids 10+)

Join MakeArt’s summer camp!
Monday – Wednesday, 9 AM – 3:00 PM

Bring your drawings to life with felt! In this class for kids 10+, artists will turn their own drawn characters into soft, needle felted creations. Starting with sketches and ideas, we’ll explore how different felting materials, colors, and textures can help support any idea—no matter how wild or silly. Kids will learn how to shape, layer, and build with wool while problem-solving, experimenting, and watching their characters jump from paper into the real world. Imagination encouraged, creativity guaranteed.

🌻 Accessibility note: Social Good Place is housed in a historic building with significant physical limitations. There is no level entry to the building; accessing the event space requires navigating stairs. You can read Social Good Place’s full statement on accessibility at https://socialgoodplace.org/access/.
